back in my dub days, i used to make copies of all the old recorded talks i could get my hands on.
in the process i was surprised to come across several talks in which the "faithful slave" tried to make the case that all the scriptures talking about the "heart" were not figurative, but referred to one's literal heart--the organ itself!
as i recall, they even incorporated some pseudo-scientific quotes as "proof" that the heart could effect your thoughts and motivations.
I believed it in the 70's when I first heard that the actual literal heart was the seat of emotion and not the brain.
I was really bummed out in the early 80's when the Watchtower said that was not true. I was shocked at the turn around.
That was the moment I first began to think maybe the Governing Body did not know what it was talking about.

My favorite poem is the sequel to the purple cow.
The Purple Cow

So many people recited this poem that the author (can't remember the name) wrote what is my favorite poem in reply to his fans.

if someone you were witnessing to at a door or on the street presented you with this scripture, and told you that paul supported even false intensions about christ, in fact he rejoiced in it.
in other words if witnesses have issues with "false religion" or some church leaders(on tv) out there acting like big supporters of the gospel, but they're really in it for the money, how would you handle that paerson saying that paul rejoiced in it?
When I was a Witness I interpeted this scripture to mean that even though the churches were "Babylon the Great" and hopeless dupes of Satan they did a very good thing in providing Bibles to heathens and spreading the knowledge that Jesus died for the worlds sins. That being said, it was up to Jehovah's Witnesses to perfect that knowledge and give those converted heathens and "false" Christians the true path to salvation in Jehovah's New System.
When I was a Witness I never took the view that anyone not in the organization was totally evil. I thought they were just misinformed.
Now I realize that the Watchtower was the misinformed party.

Thomas Jefferson wrote that he expected most Americans to become Unitarians. I no longer have the book containing Jeffersons' writings so I can't quote the specific letter. Jefferson thought that Unitarians appeal to reason and science as opposed to blind faith in miracles would appeal to Americans as they educated themselves out of superstitious credulity.I am sure that the religious belief of George W. Bush has poor Tom spinning in his grave.

i've been thinking of how all of our lives have changed from learning about this religion and getting out.
probably no one has done more to help us understand the truth about "the truth" than raymond franz.
of course there were others that questioned dates, prophecies and dogma but it was ray franz that revolutionized the organization.
Reading Ray's books helped me shake off the blinders I put on myself at my baptism as a Witness in 1973. I used to excuse the local Elders as not applying the Watchtower correctly or not following what the Society taught. After reading Ray's books I realized the local Elders were screwed up because the Governing Body and the Watchtower Society is screwed up. The local Elders were doing things by the book alright and that book was not the Bible. Thank you Ray Franz.

I used to watch Gene Scott all the time.
He would say that "Preachers that say they want your prayers and not your money are liars, if you send me your money I know i have your prayers." He would then say, "What am I going to do with your money? That's none of your goddamn business!" I miss him.
He knew it was a racket and was honest about it. He thought that people who were entertained or received any benefit from his preaching should be happy to pay for it. Public Broadcasting in the US is no different. If you like the program send in your money.
cannot say that i was a big fan of his style of music, but the man was a legend.
